The Other Side of Noosa
Markets, mountain towns, country roads and the stays worth travelling inland for.
Noosa Hinterland, Queensland
Most people arrive in Noosa and follow the coast.
The hinterland begins in the other direction. Beyond the river, the road passes through Doonan's acreage, Eumundi's old shopfronts and the working towns of Cooroy, Pomona and Kin Kin.
This is the quieter side of Noosa. Mornings begin at a produce market. Afternoons are spent walking beneath eucalypts or below a waterfall. Lunch might stretch into a distillery tasting. Dinner happens in a country hotel rather than on Hastings Street.
You can still reach the beach. You simply stop making it the centre of the journey.

Architecture, mountain views and genuine privacy.

Three days in the Noosa hinterland
A long weekend between Doonan, Eumundi, Cooroy, Pomona and Kin Kin
This itinerary works best Friday to Sunday, with Saturday planned around the markets.
- Day one / Doonan + Eumundi
Leave the coast and check into a Doonan or Eumundi stay. Allow the afternoon to settle into the property. Later, walk Eumundi's Memorial Drive after the market crowds have gone. Dinner in Doonan or at the property. WAYPOINT can arrange provisions, a prepared arrival dinner, private chef, local wine and breakfast supplies.
- Day two / Yandina + Eumundi + Cooroy
Start early at Yandina Country Markets, held Saturday from 6am to noon. This is the local market: fruit, vegetables, plants, deli goods and second-hand finds. Continue to the Original Eumundi Markets, Wednesday and Saturday from 7.30am to 2pm. Buy for the house, not the suitcase. Spend the afternoon around Cooroy, Lake Macdonald, the Noosa Botanic Gardens, a suitable section of the Noosa Biosphere Trails or Mount Tinbeerwah if weather and fitness suit.
- Day three / Pomona + Kin Kin
Travel beneath Mount Cooroora to Pomona. Choose the heritage walk, an easier circuit or a properly prepared mountain walk appropriate to the group. Book lunch at Pomona Distilling Co., then continue to Kin Kin through the northern hinterland. Finish at Kin Kin Hotel. Arrange a driver if the party intends to drink.
The Maleny extension
Maleny belongs to the wider Sunshine Coast hinterland and is better kept out of the principal three-day Noosa route. Treat it as an optional fourth day, or as a separate southern arrival from Brisbane.
The southern loop takes in Maleny and Montville, Mapleton Falls, Kondalilla Falls, Baroon Pocket and sections of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk.
Park alerts, weather, track grading and group fitness are checked before any walking is planned.

WAYPOINT can arrange a rental vehicle around the arrival rather than leaving the guest to solve it at the counter.
The vehicle may be collected from Sunshine Coast Airport or Brisbane Airport, or — where supplier, location and availability allow — delivered to the residence and waiting at the house on arrival.
Match the vehicle to the party, luggage and route. A comfortable SUV generally suits a hinterland journey better than choosing by category alone.
Child seats, additional drivers, insurance, excess, delivery and collection terms are confirmed with the rental provider before booking.
A note on the route
The main route stays tightly centred on Doonan, Yandina, Eumundi, Cooroy, Pomona and Kin Kin.
Maleny remains the optional fourth day, so the long weekend does not become a rushed driving tour.
The beach is still there when you come back.
The journey. The place. The memory.
