The Whitsundays Stay & Experience List
Eight Hamilton Island stays. Eight ways to spend the days. Two ways to build the week.
Hamilton Island & The Whitsundays, Queensland
Hamilton Island solves the logistics quickly. There is a runway, a harbour, restaurants, golf and houses that work for groups. The mistake is then trying to fill every hour.
The Whitsundays are better when the residence stays constant and the days move outward from it.
A yacht leaves from the harbour. A helicopter or aircraft takes the reef day further. Lunch can be on Dent Island. Whitehaven can happen before the day boats. Dinner can happen back at the house.
Then one day should probably have almost nothing in it.
These are the Hamilton Island stays and Whitsundays experiences we would build the week around.
Hamilton Island stays
Eight residences we would consider for a Whitsundays week. Each is featured or recommended accommodation rather than WAYPOINT-owned inventory; house detail, availability and terms are confirmed directly during planning.
AquilaHamilton Island
A strong Hamilton Island base for a group that wants the house to carry as much of the week as the itinerary.
WAYPOINT forGroups / design / an island week.
The CowriesHamilton Island
A Hamilton Island residence with a direct connection to the ALANI Experience, which makes the house-and-yacht combination one of the cleanest ways to structure a Whitsundays week.
Take the residence, take the yacht day from the harbour, and the two halves of the week stop competing with each other.
WAYPOINT forGroups / residence and yacht / ALANI Experience.
Jasmine HouseHamilton Island
Also connected to the ALANI Experience, and the version we would look at when the week is built around the harbour rather than the house alone.
It suits a group that intends to be on the water often and wants somewhere settled to come back to.
WAYPOINT forGroups / harbour weeks / ALANI Experience.
Yacht Harbour TowerHamilton Island
Close to the marina and the movement of the island. This is the option for a party that would rather walk to the boat, the coffee and dinner than drive a buggy to any of it.
WAYPOINT forMarina access / harbour / groups.
Haven HouseHamilton Island
A relaxed island base for family or group use, where the day can begin and end at the house without much ceremony.
WAYPOINT forFamily / groups / an easy island base.
Casa RotundaHamilton Island
A design-led residence, and the one to look at when the house itself is part of the reason for the trip.
WAYPOINT forDesign / groups / longer stays.
KahalaHamilton Island
A private Hamilton Island residence for a group week, chosen for separation rather than proximity.
WAYPOINT forPrivacy / groups / island weeks.
FortunatoHamilton Island
Another private residence option for a group taking the island for a week, where the house is expected to hold everyone comfortably across several days.
WAYPOINT forPrivacy / groups / a full week.
The days out
Eight ways to spend the days, arranged so that no two consecutive mornings ask the same thing of you.
M/Y ALANI day charterHamilton Island harbour
The flagship private yacht day from Hamilton Island, an 82ft Sunseeker run within the ALANI Experience. Whitehaven, Hill Inlet or an island route chosen around the wind, leaving when the party is ready rather than when a schedule says so.
Formats, crew and inclusions are confirmed directly at the time of planning.
WAYPOINT forGroups / a marquee water day / Whitehaven.
Axopar 37 day charterWhitsunday Passage
Faster and lighter. Good for a day of three or four stops: a beach, a swim, lunch, then somewhere else before the afternoon breeze fills in.
WAYPOINT forSmaller parties / island-hopping / a quick day.
Fishing charterThe islands and the reef edge
A private boat and a skipper who works this water, with the day set by tide, season and sea state. Half a day is often enough.
WAYPOINT forA morning on the water / small groups.
Journey to the HeartHeart Reef, outer Great Barrier Reef
Heart Reef can only be seen from the air. The published Journey to the Heart experience puts a small pontoon on the water beside it, limited to six guests, so you fly out by helicopter and have the platform to yourselves for an hour.
Weather and tide govern the schedule. We plan it early in the week so there is room to move it.
WAYPOINT forThe reef day / couples and small groups.
Whitehaven before the day boatsWhitsunday Island
Seven kilometres of silica sand and the tidal patterns at Hill Inlet, which only resolve from the lookout or from the air. Arrive at first light by tender or aircraft, walk the northern end and swim while it is still cool.
Hamilton Island Air's Whitehaven format is the simplest way to arrive on the sand rather than in a queue of tenders.
WAYPOINT forEarly risers / photography / the beach day.
Dent Island golf, or just lunchDent Island
A championship course occupying its own island, a short ferry from Hamilton Island harbour. Eighteen holes across ridgelines and coastal scrub, and a clubhouse afterwards with no particular interest in you leaving.
It also works with no clubs at all. Cross for lunch, stay for the view, come back on a later ferry.
WAYPOINT forGolf / a long lunch / an easy half day.
A chef in the houseYour residence
The best night of the week is usually the one where nobody leaves. A chef arranged into the residence, a table set outside and an evening that runs as long as it wants to. Availability is confirmed with local providers.
WAYPOINT forGroups / the final night / staying put.
Passage Peak at sunriseHamilton Island
The highest point on the island and about two hours return. Start in the dark, take water, be back for breakfast. Heat and track conditions decide whether it is sensible on any given morning.
WAYPOINT forOne early start / the clearest view of where you are.
5 nights / Hamilton Island
One residence. Days that move outward and come back.
- Day 1 / arrive, house, harbour
Arrive, settle into the residence, walk the harbour, dinner close to home. Do not schedule the first afternoon.
- Day 2 / M/Y ALANI, Whitehaven
Private yacht day. Whitehaven or an island route chosen around conditions. Back to Hamilton Island for dinner.
- Day 3 / Dent Island
Golf and lunch, or cross for lunch only. Keep the afternoon free.
- Day 4 / reef by air
Journey to the Heart, or the Whitehaven Beach getaway format, selected around weather and availability.
- Day 5 / slow morning, chef
Passage Peak at sunrise if the weather works. Pool, beach or nothing. A chef in the house for the final dinner.
- Day 6 / depart
Breakfast at the house. Runway when required.
7 nights / the full Whitsundays week
The same house, more room between the marquee days.
- Day 1 / arrive, settle
Nothing booked. The harbour, a walk, an early dinner.
- Day 2 / M/Y ALANI, Whitehaven
The big water day, taken while everyone is fresh.
- Day 3 / slow island day, chef
Pool, beach, buggy, a chef in the house for dinner.
- Day 4 / air, outer reef
Journey to the Heart or an outer reef format, moved for weather without complaint.
- Day 5 / Dent Island
Golf and lunch, or lunch only. An afternoon with nothing after it.
- Day 6 / Axopar 37 or fishing
A faster day on the water, or a half day fishing and an early finish.
- Day 7 / Passage Peak, unscheduled
The spare day is deliberate. Weather changes. People get tired. Sometimes the best thing on Hamilton Island is not leaving the house until lunch.
- Day 8 / depart
Breakfast at the house. Runway when required.
A note on the Whitsundays
The Whitsundays are often sold as a list of things to do. That is not the version we are interested in.
The better week has rhythm. Whitehaven before everyone arrives. Lunch across the water on Dent Island. A yacht day that starts from the harbour when you are ready. A house with enough space to stop moving. A morning where the only plan is Passage Peak before breakfast.
The destination is spectacular. The difference is timing.
That is the WAYPOINT part.
The journey. The place. The memory.
